“And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment” (Philippians 1:9 ESV)

>>> Ftheiro (Greek)- Corrupt: to shrivel or wither, i.e. to ruin (especially figuratively) by moral influences, to deprave
>>> As we can see, after sin rears its ugly head and the blame game begins in chapter 3, humanity takes a nose-dive and becomes corrupt because of its moral depravity.

Genesis 6:1-8
>>> Let’s start with verse 3, shall we? The Lord appears to be saying that pretty soon man would stop living into the 9 century mark and start dying off at 120 years and younger. This does not happen right away but pretty soon we start to see that people are not living to the ripe old age of 969 any more.
>>> So what does it mean that the “sons of God” came in to the “daughters of man” and had children?
>>> ~guesses anyone?~
>>> Sons of God would be righteous people and their children and the daughters of man would be the not so righteous people and their children. At some point the people on earth started to mingle together and the lines between good and evil became so blurred that everything started going downhill.

So much info- so little space
>>> Verses 5, 6, and 7 don’t offer us much hope as we read where man was so evil that that’s all he thought about. We also read where the Lord is sorry that he created man and the Lord felt grief. Yahweh then decides that he will blot man out from the earth because he is sorry that he even created man.
>>> But there is yet a glimmer of hope as we get to this week’s target verse:
>>> (Polish) Ale Noe znalazł łaskę w oczach Pańskich. (Księga Rodzaju 6:8)
>>> But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. (Genesis 6:8 ESV)

Genesis 6:9-7:10
>>> Here we meet Noah, a man that found favor with Yahweh- a man that the Bible tells us was blameless. Notice that it does not say Noah was sinless (for there was only one sinless man) but that he found favor because he was blameless. A man that is blameless knows what to do about his sins after he commits them. In a violent, wicked age Noah lived blamelessly.
>>> Before we talk about the building of the ark, let’s note one thing that many people lose sight of in this entire story: If Noah lived near the home of his ancestors Adam, Eve, and Cain (East of the Garden of Eden) they were very far inland- nowhere near the Mediterranean Sea. In fact, Noah would have been quite landlocked.

The Correlation
>>> Just like last lesson where we asked why we talked about what the beginning of Genesis has to do with us (a New Testament Church preaching Jesus Christ), just what does a story about a desert dwelling ancient man and the boat that he built have to do with us today?
>>> ~Pause for reflection~
>>> Many of the details of this story are symbolic and relate directly with us today. First off, the whole premise of the story where Noah loves the Lord God and is living in a wicked generation should speak to us today. Noah is living in the desert with a bunch of wicked people and has the task of listening to what God commands him by building a giant boat. There are many days when we can feel like we’re living in the desert surrounded by wicked people but instead of building an ocean liner we have to build a solid foundation on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Correlation cont.
>>> Second, the whole “save one family through the building of a sea-going vessel” was not Noah’s idea- it was Yahweh’s. Noah wasn’t listening to the long range NOAA weather report and then decided to build a gigantic boat- the Lord God was going to destroy all flesh with a flood and reached out to Noah to save him. Jesus reaches out and picks us to be saved from the certain death from the flood of sin.
>>> Third, God tells Noah to build multiple rooms inside the ark. There is another place that we are told will have lots of rooms for those who are taken there: Heaven. Jesus promises us in John 14:2 that in the Father’s house are many rooms, and by design inside the ark were many rooms.
>>> Fourth, notice that the ark was made watertight by a coating of pitch inside and out. Without the pitch the ark would have just been a pile of lumber. Is there something today that coats us and keeps us watertight (from the flood of sin)? Yes there is- the blood of Jesus Christ.
>>>Finally, there is only one door into the ark. We are told by Jesus that there is only one door into Heaven and that is Jesus. Jesus is the way into Heaven and he calls himself the Door, just like in Noah’s day the only way into salvation was through the door into the ark.
