“Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.” (Psalm 61:1-3 ESV
Summary of Chapter 38 (you can read through it if you feel like it but we're going to do the cliff notes version)
>Judah (son 4) gets married to a Canaanite woman (a marriage that Abraham & Isaac forbid for their children) and has 3 sons.
>The first son gets married but because he is wicked the Lord puts him to death.
>The second son marries the eldest son’s wife but he refuses to have children with her (So whenever he went in to his brother's wife he would waste the semen on the ground, so as not to give offspring to his brother). Son two is put to death by the Lord because he refused to fulfill his duty to give his brother children
>*Note* This is not a verse that proves all birth control is wicked
>Judah told the wife to go home to her father and wait for his third son to grow up, but he was afraid to give him to her because of the fate of the other two
>One day Judah went to town and the daughter-in-law covered up like a prostitute, slept with Judah, and then ends up having twins.

Genesis 39
>Joseph is blessed by God and pretty much everything he touches is blessed and Potiphar promotes him.
>Next we meet the “Desperate Housewife”; although we are not given her name, Potiphar’s wife makes her intentions well known.
>Joseph has a sound answer for the wife though and will not resort to her level- “How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?”>When Potiphar’s wife doesn’t get her way she resorts to trickery- she grabs his robe when no one else is around and he runs away and leaves the robe there with her. She lies her head off and gets Joseph thrown in prison.
>Notice that although Joseph is sent to jail he doesn’t go to “hard lock-up”; he goes to the place where the king’s prisoners are kept.
>Joseph becomes an honor inmate, and the guard leaves the entire control up to Joseph because God was with him.

Genesis 40
>We all know what a baker is but a cupbearer is the position that pours drinks for the king and often times has to taste the king’s wine before giving it to him- the cupbearer is a position of great trust.
>After being incarcerated for some time they both go to sleep and have dreams- Joseph can see that they are troubled and asks what’s bringing them down.
>They both know that they have dreams that hold meanings but they don’t think there is anyone there who can interpret their dreams.>Joseph listens to the cupbearer’s dream, and interprets that in three days that he will be restored to his old position.
>Joseph has one thing that he asks, “Only remember me, when it is well with you, and please do me the kindness to mention me to Pharaoh, and so get me out of this house.”
>The baker’s dream and interpretation don’t go quite as well as the baker is hanged just like Joseph tells him.
>The cupbearer ends up forgetting Joseph though…
