“By day the Lord commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.”

Biblical Egyptology 101
—A common held (mis)belief is that Hebrew slaves were the ones that built the Great Pyramid during their slavery in the book of Exodus
—2560 BC The Great Pyramid is built as a tomb for Pharaoh Khufu.
—It wasn’t until about 1670 BC that Jacob and his sons arrived in Egypt.
—Around 1670 BC when Jacob and his sons arrived in Egypt Joseph had already been ruling under the Pharaoh.
—This period in Egyptian history is known as the Second Intermediate Period and during this time there was foreign rule in Egypt and rule was not dynastic to one family.
—The Hyksos (a mixture of Canaanite and other foreign powers ruling in Egypt) had many ruling pharaohs during this period but there was no set family that held the kingly line.

Exodus 1:1-2:25
—Around 1600 BC Joseph died and it is still during the Second Intermediate Period.
—Around 1550 BC Ahmose I expelled the Hyksos and united Egypt under full Egyptian rule. This would have been the new king that would have had no knowledge of Joseph (or more precisely of the blessing that his family brought on Egypt). Ahmose I ruled until 1525 BC
—In verse 14 when it says, “made their lives bitter with hard service” it is remembered to this day during the Passover memorial when they eat the bitter herbs. —Amenhotep I was the next Pharaoh in line and was also Ahmose’s son. Amenhotep was the Pharaoh when Moses was born (sometime between 1526-1520 BC)
—The Hebrew word used for Moses’s basket is the same Hebrew word used of Noah’s ark.
—Moses lived in the Egyptian court during the reign of Amenhotep I (1525 BC- 1506 BC) and Amenhotep’s son Thutmose I (1506 BC- 1493 BC) before seeing the rise of Thutmose II (whom Moses would have grown up with).
—During the beginning of the reign of Thutmose II (1493 BC- 1479 BC) Moses kills an Egyptian and flees for the hills of Midian. In 1479 BC Thutmose II died. This equates with verses 23-25.

Exodus 3:1-4:31
While Moses is in Midian a queen rises to power in Egypt. Her name is Hatshepsut (1479 BC- 1458 BC)
This trip while Moses was out tending the sheep he hears his name being called and then he sees that bush that is on fire but it is not being burned up.
Then the bush says that he is the “God of the Fathers”. This was the generalized term for the Almighty during this time.
What I don’t understand is why was Moses afraid to look at God but not afraid to question his commands?Moses keeps questioning Yahweh so much in chapter 4 that by verse 14 we are told, “Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses”.
Verses 24-26 are a special occurrence that happens right out of the blue but apparently since Moses’ children are not circumcised Yahweh is about to kill Moses. Moses’ wife circumcises the son and then wipes the blood on Moses’ “feet” but this was a euphemism for “genitals”.
When Moses meets Aaron remember that Moses had never met him as an adult- Moses had been royally raised.
