“For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer.” (I Timothy 4:4-5 ESV)
Joseph the Dreamer
•Brought a bad report against some of his brothers
•He was his father’s favorite and was given a multi-colored coat
•Dreamed 2 dreams where his brothers would bow down before him and his brothers thought that this would mean he would be the chief of the family. The second dream Jacob rebuked Joseph but remembered the dream.
•At 17 years old his Brothers threw him down into a pit, sold him to Midianite traders, and told Jacob that Joseph was attacked by wild animals.

Genesis 42:1-25
•When the brothers left for Egypt Jacob keeps Benjamin at home- not just because he’s the youngest but because he’s the only surviving son (or so he thinks) of Jacob’s favorite bride, Rachel.
•The first thing that his brothers do when they see him? Bow down before him just as his dream had predicted way back in chapter 37.
•How does Joseph recognize his brothers but they are unable to recognize him? 1) Joseph is in authority (which they do not expect), 2) He is dressed in Egyptian dress and pretends to use an interpreter, 3) Joseph is shaved like an Egyptian

The brothers go to Egypt
•Being accused of being a spy is a very high crime indeed. Spies were absolutely integral in Israeli Old Testament history as anytime a battle is mentioned in detail as being a victory there are always spies that precede the attack with reconnaissance.
•Reuben, the eldest, was the brother who talked the others into saving Joseph’s life instead of killing him so that is why he speaks up here and that is also why Simeon, the second oldest, is the one who is bound up and left behind when they leave.

Genesis 42:26-38
•On their trip back to their father the brothers look into their travel packs to get food for the animals and they notice that their money is in there. This was supposed to be the money that they were to use to buy grain from Joseph but they have no idea that Joseph gave them the grain and their money back too.
•When they get back to their father they tell him all that had happened and that they had food with them but that Simeon had to stay behind in Egypt. To say that Jacob is less than thrilled to have Benjamin take a trip to Egypt would be an understatement, but Reuben tries to step up to the plate and say that he will put his two sons on the chopping block if anything happens to Benjamin.

Genesis 43 (who knew that there was a French made RV named the Genesis 43?)
•When their food stores are out and the famine was still bad, Judah becomes the spokesman for all of the brothers and talks to his father about having to travel to Egypt to get more food.
•We don’t know how long they’ve been at home but remember that Simeon is still back in Egypt being held captive until Benjamin is brought down to see Joseph.
•Judah takes more responsibility than Reuben did when he tries to step up for Benjamin’s sake; Reuben put his own kid’s on the line whereas Judah says that he will take full responsibility for Benjamin’s safety.

We come bearing gifts
•The brothers arrange a gift for Joseph (as was customary at the time when visiting someone of higher stature) and depart for Egypt with Benjamin.
•When the brothers get down to Egypt they get nervous because they are brought into Joseph’s house and they think it’s because they “stole” the money from Joseph last time and didn’t pay for the grain.
•That brings us to our target verse:•A on rzekł: Pokój wam, nie bójcie się; Bóg wasz, i Bóg ojca waszego dał wam skarb do worów waszych; pieniądze wasze doszły mię. (Rodzaju 43:23)
• He replied, “Peace to you, do not be afraid. Your God and the God of your father has put treasure in your sacks for you. I received your money.” (Genesis 43:23 ESV)
•When they realize they’re not going to be killed for stealing the brothers are given the chance to present their gift.
•Once again the brothers bow down in front of Joseph- further confirmation of his dreams.
•Joseph makes sure his father is still alive and then he looks up and sees Benjamin but has to leave the room because he starts to cry.
•When the food is served Benjamin is given five times more food than the others in order to show them his special status as the youngest and a son of the favorite wife.
•When it says “merry” in Genesis 43 the actual Hebrew word used here is “intoxicated”.
