“Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved.” Romans 10:1 ESV
αμαρτια
>>> hamartia (Greek): a sin
>>> Sin is anything that is contrary to Yahweh; more importantly, Yahweh cannot coexist with sin.
>>> Think of living with sin as a stain that makes it impossible to commune with the Lord.

Genesis 3:1-7
>>> After creation is finished and everything is perfect the perfection does not last long- although we don’t know how long Adam & Eve lived in perfection in the Garden the story of their failure is in the very next chapter. This verse says it all:
>>> “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband WHO WAS WITH HER, and he ate.” (Gen 3:6)
>>> Notice that although Eve was the first one to eat the fruit she is not the one who receives the blame in the rest of Scripture- Romans 5:12-14 tells us that Adam is responsible for sin entering humanity. In fact whenever sin entering humanity is spoken of it is always Adam who is blamed.

The Fall
>>> The reason for this is found in the fact that Adam was created first-not Eve- Adam was given the command of dominion over the world and Adam was given the command not to eat of the trees in the middle of the Garden. In essence it was Adam’s fault because he did not live up to his job requirements. Men are not said to be masters of women with this position of prominence- on the contrary men and women need each other because together they form one flesh.
>>> There are multiple mentions on the theme of wives submitting to their husbands in the New Testament and this is not a sexist thing- this is because our God is a God of order. We are given two reasons in the New Testament as to why men are given a place of prominence- one is because of the example of Christ. Christ is the head of the church and the church is described as the bride of Christ. Husbands are to love their wives just like Christ loves the church and wives are to submit to their husbands as the church submits to Christ. The other example is that Adam was created first, not Eve, which gives men more accountability in the eyes of the Creator.

Pathway to sin
›>>> Next we will talk about the sequence of events that led to the first sin. First Eve saw that the tree was good for food. Seeing in and of itself is not a sin, but when you start rationalizing about what you see and glaring at something forbidden is when you start to get into trouble.
›>>> Next on the path to sin is desire. Eve couldn’t help noticing the forbidden fruit but when she started thinking about it, rationalizing in her head that it was okay and then desiring the fruit is what brought her on down to step number three on the path: action. ›>>> After Eve saw the fruit and rationalized that she could have it she was at the point of desire. When she really wanted it she took action and grabbed a fruit and ate it. Once you’ve desired something forbidden it is hard to turn from it before you act on your desire.
›>>> Finally the last step is recruitment. She ate the fruit after acting on her desire and then she recruited Adam to sin with her. There is no such thing as a private sin- sin is an infectious disease that spreads to others and that’s why recruitment is the final step. Lying is a great example of why sins can’t be private because you may tell yourself it will only effect you, but your sins effect many people. This brings us to this week’s target verse: Genesis 3:7
>>> ›“Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths.”

›>>> Zatem otworzyły się oczy obojga, i poznali, że byli nagimi; i spletli liście figowe, a poczynili sobie zasłony.

Genesis 3:8-24
>>> For one, it is impossible to hide from God. You can’t do it, don’t try. It goes against that whole omnipresent and omniscience thing. Look at one thing that Adam and Eve passed on to all of us- the blame game. Adam blamed Eve for giving him the fruit. Eve blamed the serpent for deceiving her into eating it. If there’s one thing in the human nature that is true of everyone it is blame. It is so much easier to pass the blame onto someone (or something) else than it is to confess that you actually did something wrong.
The Curse
>>> Maybe you’re sitting there wondering about why us (a New Testament Church who preaches Jesus Christ) would study Genesis. What exactly does Genesis teach me about Jesus Christ?
>>> ~Pause for wonder time~
>>> Genesis 3:15 is the first prophecy in the Old Testament that speaks to Jesus Christ coming in the New Testament. “He shall bruise your head” is a reference to Jesus wounding Satan by defeating death whereas “you shall bruise his heel” is a reference to Jesus temporarily being injured by his physical death on the cross but not being defeated.
